The Obama administration, in a move aimed at reviving Afghan peace talks, has sweetened a proposed deal under which it would transfer Taliban detainees from Guantanamo Bay prison in exchange for a U.S. soldier held by Taliban allies in Pakistan. The revised proposal, a concession from an earlier U.S. offer, would alter the sequence of the move of five senior Taliban figures held for years at the U.S. military prison to the Gulf state of Qatar, sources familiar with the issue said.

And increasingly they’ll do whatever they need to do to get their way. Character assassination is now a way of life with these people. “They can’t debate us on the issues; that’s the key. Their issues have all failed. They have only one weapon left, which is character assassination. And look how it happened. Candidate - whether it was Michele Bachmann, whether it was Herman Cain, whether it was Perry, Santorum- every single one of them was kneecapped. And in every single case it was a personal attack.”

Senior Council on Foreign Relations fellow Ed Husain has hailed the presence of Al-Qaeda terrorists in Syria, praising their fighting prowess in aid of FSA rebels while also lauding the increasing number of successful bombings carried out by Al-Qaeda fighters.
(I'm so confused... first we fund and train Al Qaeda to fight the Russians, then they are terrorists, then they are boogey men that we need to give up our freedoms in order to be protected from, then they are freedom fighters, now they are allies -- I wish someone would make up their minds...)
