NIGERIAN MAN’S DEATH SHOWS EBOLA CAN SPREAD BY AIR TRAVEL

NIGERIAN MAN’S DEATH SHOWS EBOLA CAN SPREAD BY AIR TRAVEL

ABUJA, Nigeria –
Nigerian health authorities raced to stop the spread of Ebola on Saturday after a man sick with one of the world’s deadliest diseases brought it by plane to Lagos, Africa’s largest city with 21 million people.

The fact that the traveler from Liberia could board an international flight also raised new fears that other passengers could take the disease beyond Africa due to weak inspection of passengers and the fact Ebola’s symptoms are similar to other diseases.

Officials in the country of Togo, where the sick man’s flight had a stopover, also went on high alert after learning that Ebola could possibly have spread to a fifth country.

Screening people as they enter the country may help slow the spread of the disease, but it is no guarantee Ebola won’t travel by airplane, according to Dr. Lance Plyler, who heads Ebola medical efforts in Liberia for aid organization Samaritan’s Purse.

“Unfortunately the initial signs of Ebola imitate other diseases, like malaria or typhoid,” he said.

Ebola already had caused some 672 deaths across a wide swath of West Africa before the Nigeria case was announced. It is the deadliest outbreak on record for Ebola, and now it threatens Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation. An outbreak in Lagos, Africa’s megacity where many live in cramped conditions, could be a major diisaster.

“Lagos is completely different from other cities because we’re talking about millions of people,” said Plan International’s Disaster Response and Preparedness Head, Dr. Unni Krishnan.

Nigerian newspapers describe the effort as a “scramble” to contain the threat after the Liberian arrived in Lagos and then died Friday.

International airports in Nigeria are screening passengers arriving from foreign countries for symptoms of Ebola, according to Yakubu Dati, the spokesman for Federal Aviation Authority of Nigeria.

Health officials are also working with ports and land borders, he said. “They are giving out information in terms of enlightenment, what to do, what to look out for.”

And Nigerian airports are setting up holding rooms to ready in case another potential Ebola victim lands in Nigeria.

Airports in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, the three other West African countries affected by the current Ebola outbreak, have implemented some preventive measures, according to officials in those countries. But none of the safeguards are foolproof, say health experts.

Doctors say health screens could be effective, but Ebola has a variable incubation period of between two and 21 days and cannot be diagnosed on the spot.

Patrick Sawyer, a consultant for the Liberian Ministry of Finance arrived in Nigeria on Tuesday and was immediately detained by health authorities suspecting he might have Ebola, Plyler said.

On his way to Lagos, Sawyer’s plane also stopped in Lome, Togo, according to the World Health Organization.

Authorities announced Friday that blood tests from the Lagos University Teaching Hospital confirmed Sawyer died of Ebola earlier that day.

Sawyer reportedly did not show Ebola symptoms when he boarded the plane, Plyler said, but by the time he arrived in Nigeria he was vomiting and had diarrhea. There has not been another recently recorded case of Ebola spreading through air travel, he added.

Nearly 50 other passengers on the flight are being monitored for signs of Ebola but are not being kept in isolation, said an employee at Nigeria’s Ministry of Health, who insisted on anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press.

Sawyer’s sister also died of Ebola in Liberia, according to Liberian officials, but he claimed to have had no contact with her. Ebola is highly contagious and kills more than 70 percent of people infected.

Ebola is passed by touching bodily fluids ofpatients even after they die, he said. Traditional burials that include rubbing the bodies of the dead contribute to the spread of the disease, Krishnan added.

There is no “magic bullet” cure for Ebola, but early detection and treatment of fluids and nutrition can be effective, said Plyler in Liberia. Quickly isolating patients who show symptoms is also crucial in slowing the spread of the disease.

West African hospital systems have weak and “often paralyzed” health care systems, he added, and are not usually equipped to handle Ebola outbreaks. International aid organizations like his and Doctors Without Borders have stepped in, but they also lack enough funding and manpower. “We need more humanitarian workers,” he said. “We need resources.”

A Chinese River Just Turned 'As Crimson As Blood'

A Chinese River Just Turned 'As Crimson As Blood'
On Thursday morning, a river in eastern China suddenly turned a bloody shade of red, according to unverified reports by ABC News, China News, Shanghaist, and others.

Beirut river turns blood red
The Beirut River mysteriously turned blood red Wednesday after a stream of an unidentified substance started pouring into the southern bank of the river in Furn al-Shubbak.  While the source of the red-colored water is still to be determined, the river was still emptying the red-colored water into the Mediterranean Sea by Wednesday evening.

Australian, Bondi and Clovelly beaches close as red algae moves in
Several popular Sydney beaches, including the iconic Bondi, resembled scenes out of a apocalyptic film today after an algae bloom turned the water blood red. Patches of the red algae, a natural phenomenon that can be exacerbated by certain weather conditions, were sighted between Bondi Beach and Maroubra Beachthis morning. Both Bondi Beach and Clovelly Beach were closed while authorities conduct tests in the water. Gordon’s Bay was also closed due to the algal bloom, with Beachwatch posting a photograph on Twitter showing water the colour of tomato juice.

Yangtze River Turns Red and Turns Up a Mystery
For a river known as the “golden watercourse,” red is a strange color to see. Yet that’s the shade turning up in the Yangtze River and officials have no idea why. The red began appearing in the Yangtze, the longest and largest river in China and the third longest river in the world, yesterday near the city of Chongquing, where the Yangtze connects to the JialinRiver.

Lake In France Turns Blood Red
Natural bodies of water like lakes and rivers turning blood red sounds like something apocalyptic straight out of the Bible, but a lake in southern France displaying this phenomenon has a perfectly natural explanation for it: salt. A lake in the Camargue in southern France, a river delta right where the Rhône meets the sea, turned blood red, causing some panic. But fear not: scientists are saying that the color is due to a natural phenomenon, and not a chilling portent of doom, reports NY Daily.

Sea of Azov turned bloody red
Scientists and citizens are baffled as the waters of the Azov Seaturned bloody red close to Berdyansk village in mid-July, according to article published online by English Russia. Villagers immediately suspected the great pollution from nearby factories. And older locals warned that it might be a sign of the coming events. Scientist however point that the most probable reason for bloody red color of the sea is algal blooms that are not dangerous to humans.

Weird red rain in India panics people . . . ‘blood red’ rain falls
On Thursday, July 5, 2012, around 6:50 p.m. local time, a mysterious red rain shower fell for about 15 minutes in Kannur,Kerala, India. Locales within a one kilometer area in the Indian state of Kerala experienced this phenomenon, as it filled courtyards with blood red rain and stained people’s clothes pink.

Red rain falls in Sri Lanka
Rare showers of red rain fell for over 15 minutes in Sewanagala, Monaragala and Manampitiya,Polonnaruwa yesterday morning hours of yesterday and day before yesterday. According to Meteorology Department sources red rain fell heavily in these areas and the reason has not been found yet.
The river of blood: Villagers’ shock as Slovakian waterway turns red overnight ‘like something from a horror film’
Rumours were rife in a Slovakian town this week when a river running through turned bright red. The river in Myjava, a small municipality on the border to the Czech Republic, had changed colour over night and turned into ‘blood’. Police have been called in to investigate the matter, but it is believed to be a faulty filtering system from a slaughterhouse upstream.

Why Are So Many Bodies Of Water Turning BlOOD RED The Last Few Years

Perhaps Tehillim 78:44-51 can shed some light on why so many bodies of water around the world are turning BLOOD RED…is this the first sign of Hashem’s punishment towards the nations oppressing Israel?
He turned their canals into blood, and their flowing waters they could not drink.
He incited against them a mixture of wild beasts, which devoured them, and frogs, which mutilated them.
He gave their produce to the finishing locusts and their toil to the increasing locusts.
He killed their vines with hail and their sycamore trees with locusts.
He gave over their animals to the hail and their cattle to the fiery bolts.
He dispatched against them the kindling of His anger-wrath, fury, and trouble, a delegation of evil messengers.
He leveled a path for His anger; He did not withhold their soul from death, and He delivered their body to pestilence.
He smote every firstborn in Egypt, the first fruit of their strength in the tents of Ham.

God doesn't need natural or man-made involvement to accomplish His will, but often in scripture we see Him choosing to use these things as His instruments to accomplish His purposes... Even if some of these events can be traced back to a natural or man-made explanation, the fact remains that the water turning blood red is still a warning signal of God's judgement...

They need to make the people demand a better way to kill. PROPHECY WILL BE FULFILLED!

What Happened to the Sunken City of Cuba?

Just over a decade ago, a team of explorers were working on an exploration and survey mission off the western coast of Cuba when their sonar equipment picked up a perplexing series of stone structures lying some 650 metres below the surface.  The structures appeared completely analogous against the barren ‘desert’ of the ocean floor and seemed to show symmetrically organized stones reminiscent of an urban development. A media flurry soon ensued with news sites sporting headlines such as ‘Atlantis Discovered in Cuba’ and ‘Lost City of the Caribbean Found’. However, the finding also attracted the attention of the government, national museum, and national geographic, who all made promises to investigate the strange sonar images. Now, ten years on, the story has disappeared into obscurity. What ever happened to the sunken ‘ruins’ of Cuba? Were they ever fully investigated? And why has the media fallen silent on this unusual discovery?

The discovery was first made in 2001 when Pauline Zalitzki, a marine engineer, and her husband Paul Weinzweig, owners of a Canadian company called Advanced Digital Communications (ADC), were working on a survey mission in conjunction with the Cuban government off the tip of the Guanahacabibes Peninsula in the Pinar del Río Province of Cuba. ADC was one of four firms working in a joint venture with President Fidel Castro's government to explore Cuban waters, which hold hundreds of treasure-laden ships from the Spanish colonial era. The team was using advanced sonar equipment to scan a 2 square kilometre area of the sea floor when they noticed a series of symmetrical and geometric stone structures resembling an urban complex.

Lack of sleep implants 'false' memories in brain

Lack of sleep implants 'false' memories in brain

Sleep deprived people are more likely to misremember events and hold 'false' memories of the past, scientists have discovered

It is a common complaint of couples that their partner sometimes appears to have a different recollection of past events than themselves, leading to arguments and recriminations.

But it could be caused by a lack of sleep.

Missing out on sleep makes people forgetful and can even implant ‘false’ memories of events that have never taken place.

A study by Michigan State University found that those deprived of sleep were more likely to struggle to remember the details of a simulated burglary when shown a series of images.

Researchers said it could have serious consequences for the criminal justice system, in which eyewitness are often asked to identify offenders following a stressful situation which may have disrupted their sleep.

But it is also likely to have repercussions in everyday life, with couples remembering past events differently.

Psychologist Dr Kimberly Fenn, of Michigan State University in the United States, said: "We found memory distortion is greater after sleep deprivation. And people are getting less sleep each night than they ever have.

"People who repeatedly get low amounts of sleep every night could be more prone in the long run to develop these forms of memory distortion. It is not just a full night of sleep deprivation that puts them at risk."

Lack of sleep - less than seven to eight hours - is already considered a public health epidemic with more than 28 million people in the UK, almost six in ten of the population, regularly getting no more than seven hours a night.

Insufficient sleep has also been linked to vehicle crashes, industrial disasters and chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes.

In the study participants who were kept awake for 24 hours, and even those who got five or fewer hours of sleep, were more likely to mix up the details of an event than others who were well rested.

The findings, published in the journal Psychological Science, follows a survey that showed almost eight in ten Britons are exposed to sleep disruptive blue light from computer devices before going to bed. Among 18 to 24 year olds this figure rose to an astonishing 91 per cent.

Lack of sleep is believed to harm the learning ability of children, and even lead to the loss of brain cells in adults which in the long term could cause Alzheimer's disease.

Price of Beef and Bacon Reach All-Time High

Price of Beef and Bacon Reach All-Time High

The price of beef and bacon hit its all-time high in the United States in June, according to data released Tuesday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
In January 1980, when BLS started tracking the price of these commodities, ground chuck cost $1.82 per pound and bacon cost $1.45 per pound. By this June 2014, ground chuck cost $3.91 per pound and bacon cost $6.11 per pound.

A decade ago, in June 2004, a pound of ground chuck cost $2.49, which means that the commodity has increased by 57 percent since then. Bacon has increased by 78.7 percent from the $3.42 it cost in June 2004 to the $6.11 it costs now.

In one month, beef increased from $3.85 in May 2014 to $3.91 in June 2014. Bacon increased from $6.05 in May 2014 to $6.11 in June 2014.

Each month, the BLS employs data collectors to visit thousands of retail stores all over the United States to obtain information on the prices of thousands of items to measure changes for the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The CPI is simply the average change over time in prices paid by consumers for a market basket of goods and services.

The BLS found that there was a 0.1 percent change in the food index in June, which tracks foods like meats, poultry, fish, eggs and dairy, as well as many others. “The index for meats, poultry, fish, and eggs increased in June, though its 0.2 percent increase was its smallest since December,” stated BLS.

“The index for food at home has increased 2.4 percent over the past year, with the index for meats, poultry, fish and eggs up 7.5 percent,” BLS stated.
