Era Of Genetically-Altered Humans Could Begin This Year

The Era Of Genetically-Altered Humans Could Begin This Year
By the middle of 2014, the prospect of altering DNA to produce a genetically-modified human could move from science fiction to science reality. At some point between now and July, the UK parliament is likely to vote on whether a new form of in vitro fertilization (IVF)—involving DNA from three parents—becomes legally available to couples. If it passes, the law would be the first to allow pre-birth human-DNA modification, and another door to the future will open.

So-called 'Christians' Choosing Secular Over Scripture

Sex and Marriage: Christians Choosing Secular Over Scripture
The results are clear that majority of young Christians are open to pre-marital sex and cohabitation. Both of which are heavily discussed throughout the Bible and God gives very clear instructions on how he intends people to live their lives.

Beware of the Disney Channel

Beware of the Disney Channel
Disney has decided it is “relevant” to introduce the two lesbian women to the show to force-feed their view of “inclusiveness and diversity.” Thus, it is quite clear to me that Disney no longer wants my granddaughters to view their channel with Good Luck Charlie — or any other show. If they feel it is their responsibility to force-feed that trash and perversion down my throat in their shows, then my only recourse is to boycott all Disney programming. No more movies. No more television channel.

Day Before the State of the Union Has Been Full of NSA Leaks

Tennessee Bill Would Shut Down NSA Spy Center
“We have an out of control federal agency spying on pretty much everybody in the world. I don’t think the state of Tennessee should be helping the NSA violate the Constitution and the basic privacy rights of its citizens – and we don’t have to,” said State Sen. Stacey Campfield (R-Knoxville), who introduced the bill.

The Day Before the State of the Union Has Been Full of NSA Leaks
Rapid-fire reports revealing secret government surveillance programs hit the Internet Monday, just a day before Obama will deliver his annual State of the Union address before Congress. NBC News reported Monday afternoon that the British government can "tap into the cables carrying the world's Web traffic at will and spy on what people are doing on some of the world's most popular social-media sites, including YouTube, all without the knowledge or consent of the companies."

Again! Massive fudging on global-warming temps

Again! Massive fudging on global-warming temps
..the global warming activists are at it again. They’re manipulating the data. In this case, lowering the historical temperatures for years prior to 2000. Which makes the temperatures after that look like they’ve risen. Which makes it look like global warming. “A newly uncovered and monumental calculating error in official U.S. government climate data shows beyond doubt that climate scientists unjustifiably added a whopping one degree of phantom warming to the official ‘raw’ temperature record,” the report says.

Bank Run Fears Escalate as Russian Lender Bans Cash Withdrawals

Bank Run Fears Escalate as Russian Lender Bans Cash Withdrawals
Fears of bank runs have escalated with the news that Russian lender ‘My Bank’ has banned all cash withdrawals until next week. ...While the Ruble has been losing ground rapidly recently, we suspect few have been expecting bank runs in Russia. Russia sovereign CDS had recently weakened to 4-month wides at 192bps,” reports Zero Hedge.

Prove it: Bank blocking some customers from making large withdrawals without ‘evidence’ of spending need
If you bank at HSBC in England, don’t plan on making any large cash withdrawals. At least not without a good explanation. Or, maybe even a permission slip. That’s because a previously unannounced change in banking policy is blocking some customers from making large withdrawals without “evidence” explaining why they need the money from their accounts .

Economist Caution: Prepare For ‘Massive Wealth Destruction’

Take immediate steps to protect your wealth . . . NOW!

That’s exactly what many well-respected economists, billionaires, and noted authors are telling you to do — experts such as Marc Faber, Peter Schiff, Donald Trump, and Robert Wiedemer. According to them, we are on the verge of another recession, and this one will be far worse than what we experienced during the last financial crisis.

China threatens US military superiority

China threatens US military superiority: official
China poses an increasing challenge to the US military's technological edge while budget pressures are hampering Washington's effort to stay ahead, a senior defense official warned on Tuesday. Frank Kendall, the Pentagon's chief weapons buyer, told lawmakers that when it comes to "technological superiority, the Department of Defense is being challenged in ways that I have not seen for decades, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region."

Man of the Year not enough? Pope Francis now SuperPope

Man of the Year not enough? Pope Francis now SuperPope
It wasn't enough that Pope Francis was named Time magazine's "Person of the Year" or that he fronted this week's Rolling Stone magazine. Now there's SuperPope graffiti sprouting up around the Vatican. The white caped crusader appeared on Tuesday on a wall just off Borgo Pio, a tiny cobble-stoned street near St. Peter's Square. In typical superhero fashion, Francis' right fist is thrust in the air, leading him in flight, while his left clutches his black satchel. "Valores," or values in Spanish, is written across it.

Is Barack Obama an imperial president?

Is Barack Obama an imperial president?
"We've got this Constitution, we've got this whole thing about separation of powers," Obama continued. "So there is no shortcut to politics, and there's no shortcut to democracy." The reality isn't so simple. Obama, a former constitutional law lecturer, was once skeptical of the aggressive use of presidential power. During the 2008 campaign, he accused President George W. Bush of regularly circumventing Congress.

State of the Union 2014: Obama calls for ‘year of action’
President Barack Obama outlined plans Tuesday to make 2014 his year of action — using his executive authorities wherever possible while encouraging Congress to go even further. Obama took on a more pragmatic tone than in previous State of the Union addresses, acknowledging that getting his agenda past House Republicans was unlikely and therefore he would use his power to do what he can on his own.

'We have a Constitution': Boehner warns Obama on exec orders
House Speaker John Boehner issued a stern warning to President Obama ahead of Tuesday night's State of the Union address: "We have a Constitution. We abide by it. If he tries to ignore it, he's going to run into a brick wall."

Threats from milquetoast Boehner?  What a laugh :/

Pre-birth genetic modification

First pre-birth genetic modification could be approved soon in the UK to correct faulty mitochondria
Dr Mitalipov, who headed the research, explained: “Using this process, we have shown that mutated DNA from the mitochondria can be replaced with healthy copies in human cells.” Indeed, by using 106 human eggs donated by healthy volunteers, the team demonstrated that although the ST-IVF grants chances of successful in vitro fertilization lower than the standard IVF (50% versus 75%), the viable embryos undergo normal development. More importantly, the rate of success is not impaired by use of cryo-preserved human eggs, a condition that will be critical for clinical applications of ST.

Christian persecution? No. Annihilation!

Christian persecution? No. Annihilation!
The first delegation of Syrian Christian church leaders to visit the U.S. since civil war broke out in March 2011 spoke Monday at the Heritage Foundation, issuing a stunning warning that the nation’s Christian population could vanish. “Today we are faced with a potential extinction of the church,” Patrick Sookhdeo, chairman of the Westminster Institute, warned. “Not just in Syria. We’ve seen it in Iraq. The church could fall in Lebanon.”

Swedish divers find possible pre-flood relics

Not Atlantis, but significant nonetheless – Swedish divers find 11,000-year-old relics
Buried 16 metres below the surface, Nilsson uncovered wood, flint tools, animal horns and ropes. Among the most notable items found include a harpoon carving made from an animal bone, and the bones of an ancient animal called aurochs, the ancestor of domestic cattle, the last of which died off in the early 1600s.

Deception, Seduction, and Departure

Deception, ever so subtle in word and deed, is being preached and taught by those who are leading their flocks to a certain, predetermined end. Look closely, for you will see not just the imprimatur, but the fingerprints of the devil himself on a doctrine that is totally alien to true Christendom. It’s a doctrine which is being embraced in wholesale numbers by many who are seeking salvation without spiritual discernment.
It is much easier for many to believe in false doctrines over true salvation when pastors, priests, and ministers embrace and preach the ideals that demand conformance to a socialist utopia that is slickly marketed by global despots to the “franchise-ministers of the mega-ministries.”  The doctrines that will lead many astray, and those behind the pulpits pushing these doctrines, purposely omit any reference to the power of the resurrection and overcoming matters of the world, as such doctrine is socially, personally and politically inconvenient.
Much like the multi-level geopolitical chess game being played on the world stage, so too is the multi-level infiltration of false teachers leading Christians astray through their false doctrines. We need to get back to the fundamental truths—the faith once delivered to us by the apostles and prophets and unsullied by Satan. The stakes could not be greater, for it our eternal salvation at risk.

A Real-Life Demon Possession Is Being Reported in Indiana

A Real-Life Demon Possession Is Being Reported in Indiana – The Details Are Almost Too Horrifying to Believe
A terrified mother claims she watched in horror as her demon-possessed 9-year-old son walked backwards up a wall and ceiling. Her claims would be easy to dismiss if a child services case worker and a nurse weren’t reportedly there to witness it all. Strangely enough, the scary-sounding incident is outlined in official documents. Further, Gary police Capt. Charles Austin told the Star that he is a “believer” after making several visits to the home and interviewing witnesses.

Haunting in Indiana leads to family’s exorcism, child’s levitation: Reports
A Gary, Ind., mother of three claims demons caused her 12-year-old daughter to levitate and her 9-year-old son to walk on a hospital ceiling — accounts supported by medical personnel and police officials, according to a shocking report. For Latoya Ammons, the late night footsteps, the creaking of a door and wet footprints left by a shadowy male figure through her living room were merely child's play when that was all her family had to endure.

Blood of Pope John Paul II stolen in possible 'satanic' theft
A religious reliquary containing blood from the late Pope John Paul II has been stolen from a remote mountain church in Italy, with speculation that a Satanic group could be behind the theft. A team of around 50 Carabinieri police officers with sniffer dogs were on Monday searching for any trace of the reliquary, which was stolen from the Church of St Peter of Ienca in the Abruzzo mountains at the weekend.

Stephen Hawking says black holes don’t exist
Black holes are the source of endless fascination and speculation. Do they hold the secrets of the universe and perhaps even the key to time travel itself? We may never know the answers to those questions because famed theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking says black holes don’t actually exist. At least not in the way we’ve been taught to think about them.

Predictive Programming and the Human Microchipping Agenda

Predictive Programming

Predictive Programming - The power of suggestion using the media of fiction to create a desired outcome.

Hollywood is the magician's wand (holly-holy) which has been used to cast a spell on the unsuspecting public. Things or ideas which would otherwise be seen as bizarre, vulgar, undesirable or impossible are inserted into films in the realm of fantasy. When the viewer watches these films, his/her mind is left open to suggestion and the conditioning process begins. These same movies which are designed to program the average person, can give the discerning viewer a better understanding of the workings and the plan of the world agenda. "Be-aware".

The Experiment
(Germany) Good fictional account of actual psychological experiments in identity modification and adaptation. How people adapt to new roles under scientific guidance.

The Stand

The Trial
Surrealistic portrayal of a totalitarian system where an individual is charged with ? and goes through the logical processes without understanding that logic, albeit predictable, was never intended to win.

2001 and 2010
Written by a high free mason, Arthur C. Clarke, shows a Masonic belief system semi-obscured in allegory. Really tells a new world order beginning in 2001, ending with Part 2 - 2010. For follow up on final story, see Arthur C. Clarke's book 3001.

Written by Rudyard Kipling
Two ex-soldiers in nineteen century India, both free masons, join in search of Alexander the Great's treasure. (Ticked-off mason's by using Masonic greetings openly.)

Dark City
Sci-fi with a DNA-program memory twist.

Life of Brian
A Monty Python movie depicting Jerusalem 2000 years ago where different factions, communist, socialist, and zealots all fight with each other as well as the Romans. Brian is mistaken for a messiah and followed by the mob (representing the general population) who persistently look for magical meanings behind the simple sayings such as "Why don't we all just get along with each other?"

Things to Come by H. G. Wells (1937)
H.G. Wells, British Frontman and RIIA (CFR in America) shows the elite's plan of creating a scientific dictatorship to rule the entire world using advanced sciences including gassing whole populations from a world squadron of aircraft which he calls the freemasonry of airmen.

Running Man
Reality show of the near future where the state uses convicts to entertain the public as the prisoners run a gauntlet of death, live on TV. Reminiscent of Huxley's 1962 Berkeley speech where he comments at the reason Rome fell was that they couldn't supply enough bread and circuses for the public and he saw no reason why a carefully constructed scientific dictatorship could not last forever.

Wag the Dog
The hollywood version of the US involvement in Bosnia-Albania which was followed to the letter a year later with no changes to the script by the real US.

Code 46
A special ability exists to eradicate memories and alter identity for people who had mated without authorization.

Smith & Wesson to End Most CA Sales Due to Microstamping Regulation
On January 22nd renowned gun maker Smith & Wesson joined Sturm, Ruger, & Co., by announcing it would cease California sales of its semi-automatic pistols due to microstamping requirements that went into effect last year. Ruger made the same announcement earlier this month. Microstamping is a requirement that each firearm be fitted with a special firing pin that leaves a fingerprint on a bullet casing which differs from the fingerprint of every other firearm. In other words--every one of the wildly popular Smith & Wesson M&P .45 semi-automatic handguns would have to be manufactured in such a way so that no two of them left the same mark on a shell casing.

Editor David Remnick asked the obvious question about Obama’s abysmal approval ratings. Sitting in the shadow of King’s dream of a color-blind society that is united in harmony, Obama played the race card: “There’s no doubt that there’s some folks who just really dislike me because they don’t like the idea of a black President.” Of course Obama played the race card. Excepting those occasions when the target is someone like Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, world-renowned surgeon Ben Carson or some other black person who demonstrated the temerity to allow their accomplishments to speak for themselves...

By all accounts, the domestic spying program under the current administration has gone much further than it ever did under Bush, though clearly both programs exist outside the confines of the Constitution. Lady Gaga's new perfume created using blend of human blood, semen, and poisonous extract

(NaturalNews) If you have ever doubted the truly satanic essence of the infamous Lady Gaga, then you need look no further than her new perfume, which is expected to debut this fall. According to the Boston Globe and various other sources, the new Gaga scent, known as "Fame," was created using a sample of Gaga's own blood, as well as semen from another unknown donor. The blend apparently also contains a highly-toxic plant extract that is known to kill humans.

It could all just be one big demonic publicity stunt to market the ugly black liquid packaged in an alien-like, egg-shaped bottle held by what appear to be slender claws. But several sources confirm that Gaga literally used her own DNA to create the scent, which included offering up a blood sample that was actually added to the fragrance batch. Where the alleged semen came from, though, is still unknown.

"It was taken out of my own blood sample, so it's a sense of having me on your skin," said Gaga in early 2011 about the perfume. "I wanted to extract sort of the feeling and sense of blood and semen from molecular structures ...That is in the perfume, but it doesn't smell like that. Actually, the perfume smells like an expensive hooker."

Lady Gaga scent contains poisonous plant extract

The ingredient list printed on the fragrance bottle says it contains "Tears of Belladonna, crushed heart of tiger orchidea, with a black veil of incense, pulverized apricot, and, the combinative essences of saffron and honey drops." Of particular concern here is "Tears of Belladonna," which Starcasm.net reports is an extract of an extremely poisonous plant known as Belladonna, or "Deadly Nightshade."

Deadly Nightshade has apparently been used throughout history as both an anesthetic and a poison. The berries produced by the plant appear safe and delicious, but just a few of them can kill a child -- and a single leaf, in fact, is capable of killing a grown adult. Perhaps this is a metaphor for Gaga herself, as millions are drawn into her mysterious persona and musical style, only to be destroyed by the monster hiding within.

But in all seriousness, this extract, if truly present in Gaga's perfume, is highly problematic for human health, not to mention the potential presence of blood and semen. Italian women used to apply extracts of Deadly Nightshade in their eyedrops to make their eyes dilate, a practice that has since been determined be very risky.

So between the toxic belladonna extract, the blood, and the semen, any rational person will clearly be able to see that avoiding Lady Gaga's "Fame" scent like the plague is the only option here. Then again, these additives may not be any more toxic than the synthetic, petrochemical-based fragrance chemicals added to most other perfumes.

Fraud Is Driving Us Closer to the Mark of the Beast

Fraud Is Driving Us Closer to the Mark of the Beast

As long as there has been money, people have used various forms of fraud to scam their way into wealth. This illicit activity has played out in a race between law enforcement and criminals. As technology has gotten better, crooks have used more complex tools to produce money that looks like the real thing.

For hundreds of years, the battle with counterfeiters evolved at a very slow pace. When the Secret Service began tracking phony bills, most of them were drawn completely by hand because printing presses were a technology that only governments could access. As printing became more abundant, criminals had greater ability to mass produce forged bank notes.

The introduction of digital printers has made it very difficult for governments to stay ahead of counterfeiters. These machines are so skilled at producing fine print that the Treasury Department has had to add an increasing number of features to maintain the security of our currency. Every few years, the Treasury will come out with a new design.

Technology has advanced to a point where a new form of money is needed. Here are four reasons why I think a major change will occur:

Credit Card Fraud
I’m sure most of you have read about the 110 million credit cards that were stolen from Target. The increased usage of online payment and debit cards has made this form of money a key interest for criminals. Once crooks have your account and pin number, the cards are as good as cash. They use three main methods for stealing card number information: hacking into networks, buying data from insiders, or tricking people into giving up their personal information.

3D Printing
The demise of physical currency may be the result of three dimensional printing technology. Right now, 3D printing can only work with metals and plastics, but eventually these machines will be able to work with almost any material. Someday you will be able to put a $100 bill on a scanner, and out will come a copy of the bill that is so exact, a powerful microscope would be needed to tell the difference.

Crypto-currencies
The first crypto-currency to begin trading was Bitcoin in 2009. Since then over 75 other forms of digital money have been established. They all rely on cryptography to control their creation and transfer funds. What makes them popular is the fact they are anonymous and are not linked to any government. They all have a flaw that could someday make them worthless. If someone is able to get around or decipher the code that protects these crypto-currencies, they could steal them away from their rightful owners. Some types of spyware programs could be the tool for accomplishing the task. Eventually, all forms of encryption may become vulnerable as the government develops quantum computers that can instantly decipher even the toughest codes.

Gold and Silver
Precious metals would seem to be resistant to any form of counterfeiting. So far, scientists haven’t figured out a way to turn lead into gold, but some people have figured out how to make less valuable metals look like gold and silver. When precious metals reached a high in 2011, a large number of fake coins and bars were produced in China. Because some of them were coated with a layer of gold and silver on the outside, with a mix a cheap metals on the inside, only a coin expert could spot the fakes.

The mark of the beast system will be a very evil, but its resistance to fraud would make it very appealing to folks unfamiliar with Bible prophecy. If the government is able to trace all monetary transactions in the world, a thief would be unable to use force to steal someone else’s money. Even if they tricked someone into handing over a $1000, the victim could appeal to the justice system to have the transaction reversed.

The War on Terror has already placed cash in a very negative light. This past week, 33 year old Conor Guckian, was arrested at the Nashville International Airport because he had $153,000 cash in his briefcase. Officials arrested him because they assumed the money was connected to drugs. Even though Mr. Guckian looked very suspicious, charging him with drug money laundering makes criminals out of everyone who carries large amounts of cash. We’ve come a long way since the days when author, Hunter S. Thompson, could pay for his drugs with a two million dollar check that had “cocaine” written in the memo field without the bank contacting the feds.

When I first started studying prophecy, I wondered how the Antichrist would be able to get everyone to line-up and receive the mark of the beast. Back then, there were all types of civil rights watch groups, and anything that hinted of a “big brother” move by the government was automatically shot down. Today, the watchdogs are all gone and “big brother” is your friend. All the beast would need to do is get people to take the 666 mark as an offer for a safe platform for conducting financial transactions.

“He required everyone--great and small, rich and poor, slave and free--to be given a mark on the right hand or on the forehead. And no one could buy or sell anything without that mark, which was either the name of the beast or the number representing his name” (Revelation 13:16-17 NLT).

Drug to erase memories

For this study, neuroscientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) examined the effects of a type of drug called an HDAC2 inhibitor. This type of drug can make the brain more malleable. The researchers found that when rats were given the HDAC2 inhibitor, the rats' traumatic memories could be removed. The researchers believe that if this drug were to be given to patients who did not respond well to psychotherapy, the effects of therapy would ideally be improved.

We are a police state

32-year NSA Veteran Who Created Mass Surveillance System Says Government Use of Data Gathered Through Spying “Is a Totalitarian Process”

Bill Binney is the high-level NSA executive who created the agency’s mass surveillance program for digital information. A 32-year NSA veteran widely regarded as a “legend” within the agency, Binney was the senior technical director within the agency and managed thousands of NSA employees.

Binney has been interviewed by virtually all of the mainstream media, including CBS, ABC, CNN, New York Times, USA Today, Fox News, PBS and many others.

Last year, Binney held his thumb and forefinger close together, and said:

We are, like, that far from a turnkey totalitarian state.

But today, Binney told Washington’s Blog that the U.S. has already become a police state.

By way of background, the government is spying on virtually everything we do.

All of the information gained by the NSA through spying is then shared with federal, state and local agencies, and they are using that information to prosecute petty crimes such as drugs and taxes. The agencies are instructed to intentionally “launder” the information gained through spying, i.e. to pretend that they got the information in a more legitimate way … and to hide that from defense attorneys and judges.

This is a bigger deal than you may realize, as legal experts say that there are so many federal and state laws in the United States, that no one can keep track of them all … and everyone violates laws every day without even knowing it.

The NSA also ships Americans’ most confidential, sensitive information to foreign countries like Israel (and here), the UK and other countries … so they can “unmask” the information and give it back to the NSA … or use it for their own purposes.

Binney told us today:

The main use of the collection from these [NSA spying] programs [is] for law enforcement. [See the 2 slides ].

These slides give the policy of the DOJ/FBI/DEA etc. on how to use the NSA data. In fact, they instruct that none of the NSA data is referred to in courts – cause it has been acquired without a warrant.

Jewish leaders fear online surge of Hitler's 'Mein Kampf' fuels new wave of hate
Originally published in 1925, the 387-page anti-Semitic manifesto on the “Jewish peril” and the Nazi ideology has become a bona fide online sensation, topping Amazon’s Propaganda & Political Psychology section as of Thursday for just 99 cents. Elsewhere, two different versions ranked No.12 and No. 15, respectively, in the Politics & Current Events section of the iTunes bookstore as of Wednesday. While such rankings in one of several categories does not make the book a true best-seller, they do indicate a spike in popularity

Heirs May Face Bill for Your Healthcare

Obamacare Time Bomb: Heirs May Face Bill for Your Healthcare
As part of the 1993 budget reconciliation bill, Congress required states to implement the Medicaid Estate Recovery Program (MERP) to seek reimbursement of payments for nursing homes and long-term care facilities. Obamacare, officially known as The Affordable Care Act, greatly expanded the services for which reimbursement can be pursued, and states can now use liens to recover money spent by Medicaid for services beyond long-term care.

On the same wavelength-- literally

On the same wavelength-- literally

Researchers at the Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience and Centre for the Biology of Memory at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) have discovered a mechanism that the brain uses to filter out distracting thoughts to focus on a single bit of information. Their results are reported in the 19 November issue of Nature.

The human brain is bombarded with all kinds of information, from the memory of last night’s delicious dinner to the instructions from your boss at your morning meeting. But how do you “tune in” to just one thought or idea and ignore all the rest of what is going on around you, until it comes time to think of something else? In "Frequency of gamma oscillations routes flow of information in the hippocampus", published in the 19 November issue of Nature, researchers at the Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience and Centre for the Biology of Memory describe a mechanism that the brain uses to filter out distracting thoughts.
Think of your brain like a radio: You’re turning the knob to find your favourite station, but the knob jams, and you’re stuck listening to something that’s in between stations. It’s a frustrating combination that makes it quite hard to get an update on swine flu while a Michael Jackson song wavers in and out. Staying on the right frequency is the only way to really hear what you’re after. In much the same way, the brain’s nerve cells are able to “tune in” to the right station to get exactly the information they need, says researcher Laura Colgin, who was the paper’s first author. “Just like radio stations play songs and news on different frequencies, the brain uses different frequencies of waves to send different kinds of information,” she says.
Gamma waves as information carriers
Colgin and her colleagues measured brain waves in rats, in three different parts of the hippocampus, which is a key memory center in the brain. While listening in on the rat brain wave transmissions, the researchers started to realize that there might be something more to a specific sub-set of brain waves, called gamma waves. Researchers have thought these waves are linked to the formation of consciousness, but no one really knew why their frequency differed so much from one region to another and from one moment to the next.
Information is carried on top of gamma waves, just like songs are carried by radio waves. These “carrier waves” transmit information from one brain region to another. “We found that there are slow gamma waves and fast gamma waves coming from different brain areas, just like radio stations transmit on different frequencies,” she says.
You really can “be on the same wavelength”
“You know how when you feel like you really connect with someone, you say you are on the same wavelength? When brain cells want to connect with each other, they synchronize their activity,” Colgin explains. “The cells literally tune into each other’s wavelength. We investigated how gamma waves in particular were involved in communication across cell groups in the hippocampus. What we found could be described as a radio-like system inside the brain. The lower frequencies are used to transmit memories of past experiences, and the higher frequencies are used to convey what is happening where you are right now.
If you think of the example of the jammed radio, the way to hear what you want out of the messy signals would be to listen really hard for the latest news while trying to filter out the unwanted music. The hippocampus does this more efficiently. It simply tunes in to the right frequency to get the station it wants. As the cells tune into the station they’re after, they are actually able to filter out the other station at the same time, because its signal is being transmitted on a different frequency.
The switch
“The cells can rapidly switch their activity to tune in to the slow waves or the fast waves”, Colgin says, “but it seems as though they cannot listen to both at the exact same time. This is like when you are listening to your radio and you tune in to a frequency that is midway between two stations- you can't understand anything- it's just noise.” In this way, the brain cells can distinguish between an internal world of memories and a person’s current experiences. If the messages were carried on the same frequency, our perceptions of the world might be completely confused. “Your current perceptions of a place would get mixed up with your memories of how the place used to be,” Colgin says.
The cells that tune into different wavelengths work like a switch, or rather, like zapping between radio stations that are already programmed into your radio. The cells can switch back and forth between different channels several times per second. The switch allows the cells to attend to one piece at a time, sorting out what’s on your mind from what’s happening and where you are at any point in time. The researchers believe this is an underlying principle for how information is handled throughout the brain.
“This switch mechanism points to superfast routing as a general mode of information handling in the brain,” says Edvard Moser, Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience director. “The classical view has been that signaling inside the brain is hardwired, subject to changes caused by modification of connections between neurons. Our results suggest that the brain is a lot more flexible. Among the thousands of inputs to a given brain cell, the cell can choose to listen to some and ignore the rest and the selection of inputs is changing all the time. We believe that the gamma switch is a general principle of the brain, employed throughout the brain to enhance interregional communication.”
Can a switch malfunction explain schizophrenia?
People who are schizophrenic have problems keeping these brain signals straight. They cannot tell, for example, if they are listening to voices from people who are present or if the voices are from the memory of a movie they have seen. “We cannot tell for sure if it is this switch that is malfunctioning, but we do know that gamma waves are abnormal in schizophrenic patients,” Colgin says. “Schizophrenics' perceptions of the world around them are mixed up, like a radio stuck between stations.”

He said that China, currently the world's second-largest economy, is about to surpass the United States in its GDP on the basis of purchasing power parity within the next decade. In addition, China has more money to modernize its People's Liberation Army. They must understand that China will suffer disproportionately from any war that it starts against the United States or other regional powers.
