The world that then was... Ancient Metal Found 2600 Year Old Shipwreck

'Orichalcum' ingot's discovered said to be from Atlantis

However many scholars and theorists believe that the ancient city may have really existed and has been written out of history and turned into legend.

The lost city of Atlantis is a legend in league with El Dorado – the city of gold and the Arabian City Of Brass. Atlantis is lost amid folklore and legend, relegated to the realm of children’s bedtime stories. Atlantis is the 'fictional' island that was inhabited by an ancient civilization, it was hailed as a utopia in modern literature. But the island sank to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean after an unknown disaster where it drifted into legend.

However many scholars and theorists believe that the ancient city may have really existed and has been written out of history and turned into a legend. The Atlantis we know of today is a work of fiction devised by Plato around 330 B.C. Plato did not depict the people of Atlantis as peaceful, but as powerful warmongers.Professor of archaeology Ken Feder summarizes the ancient story: "A technologically sophisticated but morally bankrupt evil empire — Atlantis — attempts world domination by force. The only thing standing in its way is a relatively small group of spiritually pure, morally principled and incorruptible people — the ancient Athenians. Overcoming overwhelming odds ... the Athenians are able to defeat their far more powerful adversary simply through the force of their spirit.'"The story is in effect an ancient Star Wars plot, the age-old good versus evil story. The belief that the city may have actually existed would not come about for centuries. Writer Ignatius Donnelly in 1881 believed that it was an utopia and all the most important developments in the ancient world must have come from Atlantis. It is a fantastical take - one that again seems to be based more in the realm of fiction, yet the notion that the city existed has persisted.  Many believe it also has strong connections to Aliens.
