Power thankful for the power of healing

Power thankful for the power of healing

Shane Power turned upcourt after the first dunk of his Mississippi State career and thrust his index finger straight up.

It was a gesture people could have taken a lot of different messages from.

It wasn't a typical cheesy 'We're No. 1,' although you could have implied that not knowing the whole story.

...

State had lost to LSU by seven points Saturday and the Bulldogs were in third place in the SEC West.

That's why the "We're No. 1" thing didn't make any sense.

The real reason was infinitely more meaningful and personal.

Power choked up when he started talking about it. He'd had to have some cartilage repaired in his knee after he'd decided to transfer from Iowa State, and that's what it was all about.

"I told my mom on my first dunk, I'd point up to the sky and thank the Lord for healing my knee," he said. "That's what that was for."
