Volcano Sends Pillar Of Fire 1,000m Into Sky
With a pillar of fire stretching up into the clouds, this spectacular image captures the moment a volcano erupted in remote Russia. The stream of lava rose up to a kilometer above the summit of Klyuchevskoy, one of the active volcanoes on the Kamchatka peninsula in the east of the country.

Earth’s Gravity Altered By 2011 Japanese Earthquake December 3, 2013
Scientists from the German Geodetic Research Institute (DGFI) and from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands analyzed the high-resolution vertical gravity gradients measured over Japan by GOCE. The team found the quake had clearly ruptured the gravity field in the area. The results, published in the Journal of Geophysical Research, are consistent with coarser observations using NASA’s Grace satellite, which measures changes over time.

New Zealand earthquakes may have weakened earth's crust according to researchers
Scientists have found that the earthquakes which struck New Zealand between 2010 and 2011 could have had an impact on the earth's crust. The series of quakes released abnormally high levels of energy compared to others. New Zealand is located in the ring of fire, a 40,000 kilometre horseshoe shaped area where roughly 90 per cent of the world's earthquakes hit.

Phivolcs: Magnitude-5.7 quake hits Davao area, aftershocks expected
A magnitude-5.7 quake jolted the Davao Oriental area early Wednesday, with state seismologists warning of possible aftershocks. But Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology head Renato Solidum Jr. said there is no chance of a tsunami as the quake is not powerful enough to generate one.

Philippines Earthquake Today 2013 Strikes Near Lupon
Officials tell news that a 5.5 magnitude Philippines earthquake today hit just after 7:58 am local time on December 4. The quake had a moderate depth however. Loud Booms Caused By Microearthquakes, Seismologist Says
The U.S. Geological Survey says it recorded a 2.1 magnitude earthquake in Connecticut last Friday. According to Groton's Office of Emergency Management, that explains the mysterious loud booms that perplexed several residents over the weekend.

As Earthquakes Keep Rocking North Texas, Azle Residents Are Rattled
Residents in Azle are getting nervous and seismologists are trying to get to the bottom of what’s going on. Some point to natural gas drilling that’s happening in the Barnett Shale, a massive geological formation that covers about 20 North Texas counties. But a geophysicist with the National Earthquake Information Center says more testing is needed to make such a connection.

North Texas earthquakes trigger dam inspections
