After 12 years of occupation by U.S. military forces, Afghanistan set a record for growing opium poppies in 2013, according to newly released data from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. 

Afghan police killed by truck bomb
At least four Afghan policemen were killed when a suicide bomber drove a truck packed with explosives into a police base, officials say. The incident took place in Wardak province, south-west of the capital, Kabul. Seventeen others were wounded, some of them critically officials say. 

Karzai accuses U.S. of cutting Afghan military supplies
Afghan President Hamid Karzai accused his U.S. ally on Sunday of withholding military supplies to press him to sign a bilateral security deal that will shape the U.S. military presence after most foreign troops leave in 2014.
