Ahlquist, revisiting the controversy in Grantsburg, said he brought up the issue initially because of questions he has about flaws in the theory of evolution.
During a review of the district's science curriculum, done every six years, Ahlquist raised questions about chinks in Darwin's theory, such as the lack of fossils that would establish the existence of intermediate species in the long parade of evolving creatures.
In addition to presenting those flaws, Ahlquist said, it made sense also to discuss with students the new ways of thinking about creationism.
'I find it interesting,' Ahlquist said, 'that from the beginning, my first concern had nothing to do with faith. My first concern just had to do with science and the science curriculum.'
